'The Other side of Captain Cool’: Gambhir and other Players recall Moments when MS Dhoni Lost his Temper!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsWhile many cricketers have lost their temper on field, one of the only Indian cricketer who has had a distinguished career, and has almost never lost his temper is Dhoni. In view of this, he is also nicknamed as ‘Captain Cool’.
However, some of his former Indian cricket team members, Irfan Pathan and Gautam Gambhir, among the others had recently revealed that they have seen captain cool, lose his temperament.
38-year-old Gautam Gambhir who has played over 147 ODIs for India and 58 test games, revealed that he has witnessed some of the instances where the veteran wicketkeeper batsman has lost his ‘cool’. He said, “People say that they have never seen him (Dhoni) lose his cool, but I have seen a couple of times. It was during the 2007 World Cup and in other World Cups, when we hadn’t done well.” He also added, “He’s human and he’s bound to react as well. It’s absolutely fair enough to do that. Even at CSK, if there’s a miss-field or if someone had dropped a catch…”
Despite this, Gambhir made a comment saying that Dhoni was cooler than him. “Yes, he’s probably much cooler than the rest of the captains. Much cooler than me for sure!”
Kuldeep Yadav, Indian Spinner had also recently said that he was mortally scared of Dhoni once after he did not adhere to the instructions that were given, during an ODI against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Irfan Pathan, who has also played alongside Dhoni, revealed how he had witnessed an instance in 2006-07. He recalled, “It was in 2006-07. During the warm-up, we had a game where the right-handed batsman would bat with left-hand and vice-versa. After we finished the warm-up, we used to get into our practice.”
“So, during the warm-ups, there were 2 teams. Once MS Dhoni was given out which he didn’t think he was. He threw his bat and made a dash to the dressing room and came late for the practice. So he doesn’t get angry,” said Pathan.
