T20 World Cup 2020: ICC Postpones Tournament - More Details Here!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsIt was a big news for cricket fans, as ICC T20 World Cup, which was to be held this year in October-November, is likely to be postponed by two years, as per International Cricket Council (ICC) sources. An official announcement on this will be made after the ICC heads come for a meeting on May 28.
The postponement of the T20 World Cup 2020 will clear path for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 13 this year.
IPL 2020 was earlier scheduled to start on March 29 but was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But with the T20 World Cup also being scheduled to be held in 2021, the ICC board and officials are left with no other option but to schedule the event in 2022.
“The tournament cannot be held in February-March. Neither in 2021 nor 2022. It’ll have to be the October-November window,” a report from Times of India (ToI) stated.
Meanwhile, an ICC spokesperson, clarified over the issue stating that no decision over the postponement of the event has been taken yet. A meeting will be held on Thursday only then a decision will then be taken.
Weeks back there were reports that September to November window is likely to be picked for IPL 2020. But an official announcement on the event is yet to be made.
So if everything goes as planned, then cricket fans can witness the T20 league and T20 World Cup at the same time!
ICC has not taken a decision to postpone the T20 World Cup and preparations are ongoing for the event in Australia this year, as per plan. The topic is on the agenda for ICC Board meeting tomorrow and a decision will be made in due course: ICC spokesperson https://t.co/y8ReAQdrQL
