Sunil Gavaskar Reacts After Virat Kohli’s Low Performance in Mumbai Indians Match
Home > News Shots > Sports newsIndian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar recently made headlines with his 'misinterpreted' comment on Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma.
Amid all the controversy, Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore’ (RCB) skipper, hasn’t performed well in any of the matches in IPL 2020. Though his team has won two out of their first three matches in the IPL but Virat has not done well when it comes to score.
During Mumbai Indians and RCB's match, Gavaskar came out and backed the captain saying that though the start has been poor, Kohli has the ability to finish the season with 400-500 runs to his name.
"He's a class act everybody knows that. So what if he's had 3 quiet matches, he's the kind of batsman who will make up for it towards the end. He may have started slowly but by the time the tournament ends, he will have 400-500 runs which is what he gets every year. There was that one year when he got almost a 1000 runs (in 2016) and hundreds as well (4)," Gavaskar said on air after the match.
"He may not get 900 runs (in IPL 2020) because the first 3 matches have been quiet but 500 runs totally, they are all written there," said the cricketer-turned-commentator.
Gavaskar also refrained from taking Anushka's name in the commentary box on Monday after his comments during the Kings XI Punjab created an unwarranted controversy. He was then criticised by fans after which he stated that his comment was twisted and taken out of context.
