Some felt that the two might be rusty and will not be able to have the kind of impact they had before their ban. There were also comments about certain players being unlucky to miss out due to the inclusion of Smith and Warner.
There were doubts about Steve Smith, in particular, as he did not look at his best in this year's IPL. He was also struggling with an injury. But he has put all those doubts to rest as he has shown that he still has it in him to play for Australia and is still the best Player for the team.
In the three Warm-up matches against NewZealand XI, he has shown great form averaging 202 with the bat including 2 unbeaten knocks. In the second match, he got an unbeaten 89 and in the third match, he did better with an unbeaten and a classy 91. He was on his way to get his century but bad light stopped play and Australia won the game by D/L method.
