Shubman Gill who made his debut for India against New Zealand following KL Rahul’s suspension remained as the star of the 5 match series which India ‘A’ won by 4-1. Shubman Gill raced to the top performers' list scoring 218 runs in four matches with an average of 54.5. His top score in the series is 77 along with three other half-centuries.
On July 21 (Sunday), Gill scored a brilliant 69 runs off 44 balls smashing 3 sixes and 8 boundaries, thus contributing to an 8 wicket win in the fifth ODI. “I was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced on Sunday and I expected to be selected for at least one of the squads. It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it. I’ll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors,” Gill was quoted as saying to CricketNext from Antigua, West Indies.
Gill also acknowledged the lessons he learned, to play a controlled innings by keeping his natural game away based on the playing conditions, in the unofficial ODI series he played against WI 'A' team. He had a phenomenal Ranji Trophy last season for Punjab in which he scored 700 runs in just 5 matches. He also registered his career-best knock of 268 in the season.
Having an average of 77.78 and an overall score of 1,089 in just 9 first-class matches, Shubman Gill may soon grab an opportunity to play for senior India team in the near future, though was not selected in the upcoming series.
