It looks like the year 2019 would be marked as the ‘Year of Retirement’ of noted players in international cricket. Earlier we had reported the retirement of significant international cricketers at regular intervals including Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir. The list gets extended with South Africa’s pace bowler Dale Steyn.

RCB’s Star Cricketer, Top listed LEGENDARY Wicket taker Announces Retirement!

Dale Steyn has announced retirement from Test Cricket with immediate effect. His retirement announcement has been confirmed by Cricket South Africa (CSA) via their official account. “Today I walk away from a format of the game I love so much. In my opinion Test cricket is the best version of this game. It tests you mentally, physically, emotionally” (sic) Tweeted CSA.

Dale Steyn has played a total of 93 tests for the past 15 years. He is the highest wicket-taker for South Africa in tests (439 Wickets), 5th among the fast bowlers including James Anderson (575), Glenn McGrath (563), Courtney Walsh (519) and Stuart Broad (450) and 8th in the history of Test Cricket.

The CSA further quoted Dale Steyn “It’s terrible to consider never playing another Test again but what’s more terrifying is the thought of never playing again at all. So I will be focusing on ODIs and T20s for the rest of my career to maximise my full potential and ensure my longevity in this sport" (sic)

"I’d like to thank everyone in cricket, no one specific, because everyone has been a part of my journey. And I look forward to continuing to play for the Proteas in the shorter formats.“Thank you.” (sic).

Though Dale Sten was included in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019’s squad, he had to move out due to an injury. He was also included in Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2019 in which he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, he was ruled out of the team after two matches owing to an injury.
