Sanjay Manjrekar Hits Out After Twitter User Accuses Him of Being Scared of MS Dhoni; Tweets Go Viral!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsIPL 2020 does not seem to be a good year for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as they have struggled to find the winning momentum with six losses in nine matches.
Yellow Army's latest defeat came at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sharjah Stadium in Sharjah where CSK lost by five wickets.
However, CSK had a decent chance of turning the game in their favour but Shikhar Dhawan's maiden IPL century and Axar Patel's fight to win took the match to another level.
Also, during the last over when Dhoni trusted Ravindra Jadeja and handed over the ball to him with 17 to defend in the final over. Jadeja, who started with a wide before Axar smashed three sixes to seal a five-wicket win for Delhi Capitals was slammed post the match.
After the match, Dhoni was criticised a lot by many for picking Jadeja when Dwayne Bravo had his last over to play.
Amid all the criticism, former India batsman and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar also expressed his views on Dhoni's decision.
"With two left handed batsmen at the crease, for me it was a simple choice. Karn Sharma over Jadeja. A wrist spinner can get the ball (googly)to go away from the left handed batsman & wrist spinner gets extra bounce too. Costly mistake from CSK," Manjrekar took to his social media account and tweeted.
Within minutes a Twitter user alleged him and other commentators as they are too scared to criticise CSK skipper Dhoni. The Twitter user said that instead of writing it was Dhoni's mistake, Manjrekar called it CSK's mistake.
"Look at his tweet on Shreyas Iyer just a while ago: sharply critical and biting tone. And look at this tweet: Dhoni's mistake becomes CSK's mistake. This is a regular trend. How scared are commentators to criticize Dhoni!! Not just Sanjay Manjrekar, each one of them ," he wrote.
Within minutes, the 55-year-old Manjrekar clarified his comment that MS Dhoni is a part of CSK, thus saying ‘a costly mistake by CSK’ isn’t wrong.
"Sir when I say, costly mistake by CSK, what’s the inference? Is it not Dhoni? And with Iyer, it was his batting I was specifically talking about, can’t say DC there can I? Am I scared to criticise Dhoni? Maybe our friends here on Twitter could answer that,” Manjrekar clarified.
Manjrekar is currently not part of the IPL 2020's official commentary panel after the BCCI decided not to include him following his involvement in a couple of controversies last year.
