SRH got off to a flyer with Guptill as Saha lost his wicket early on. Everyone in the middle order chipped in with scores but no one went on to get a big one. Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson struggled in the middle as they scored 30(36) and 28(27) respectively which slowed down the scoring rate in the middle over. Vijay Shankar and Mohammad Nabi got a few big blows away in the death overs as they got 25(11) and 20(13) respectively which got them to a respectable total of 162 in the 20 overs which was a good score in a high-pressure match.
The Delhi Capitals got off to a good start with an opening partnership of 66 runs thanks to a dashing start from Prithvi Shaw. The Delhi Capitals lost Dhawan and Iyer in quick succession that pushed them back. Shaw fell soon after for a well made 56 from 38 balls. Rishabh Pant was playing positively at one end and looked like it would be an easy chase. However, Rashid Khan who bowled the15th over picked up two crucial wickets that got SRH back into the game.
As it got down to the wire and the pressure was building up with 40 required off 20 balls, Rutherford hit a six which changed the momentum. The 18th over bowled by Basil Thampi was the game changer for Delhi Capitals as Pant unleashed and they got 22 runs off the over. After that, although there were hiccups as 3 wickets, it was always going to be easy for them as they won with one ball remaining.
Rishabh Pant was judged as Man of the Match for his brilliant 49 from just 21 balls.
This means that the Chennai Super Kings will have to face Delhi Capitals and the winner of that match will play Mumbai Indians in the finals.
