Video: 'Mankad' Controversy Returns At U-19 World Cup; Fans Ask ICC To Remove Law!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsDuring the U-19 Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan bowler Noor Ahmed grabbed the limelight after using the contentious ‘Mankad’ dismissal to run-out Pakistan’s Mohammad Huraira.
The epic moment took place during the 28th over, when the left-arm spinner Ahmed ran to deliver the fifth ball but instead of completing his delivery, he stopped and hit the ball back on to the stumps.
The on-field umpire Sam Nogajski then referred the matter to the third umpire, who later confirmed that Huraira was out of his crease.
Pakistani batsman Huraira was well out of the crease and was left in shock as to what happened. Huraira was batting on 64 then, when the incident happened. Pakistan won the match by six-wickets, but the controversial dismissal became the big talking point.
After the match, Afghan captain Farhan Zakhil told ESPN that, “At that time, we realized let’s do something different to build pressure on Pakistan. To be honest, it was not in the spirit of the game.”
