Is Actor Mohanlal Interested in Buying the 9th Franchise for IPL 2021? - Report
Home > News Shots > Sports newsAfter the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 came to an end on November 10 in UAE, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already started preparing for the 2021 edition of the T20 extravaganza which is a few months away.
A day after the IPL final, there are reports that BCCI is planning to include the 9th team in the IPL for 2021. Reports also suggest that the ninth team for the 14th season is added to compensate for the financial losses it had to undergo due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, names of potential bidders have already started to surface. As IPL is one of the most sought-after properties of the BCCI, it has seen great connection with the sports and entertainment industry over the years.
As Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta already own franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), now, South Indian actor Mohanlal is reportedly in the bidding war for the 9th IPL team.
According to CricTracker report, Malayalam actor Mohanlal and mobile application BYJU’s are the prime contenders in the race of becoming the owners of the ninth IPL team. Reports have surfaced on social media after Mohanlal was spotted in the stadium for the final match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC).
Before the final match could begin between MI and DC, the cameras had captured Mohanlal in the stands at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. However, according to the journalist Rajaneesh, Mohanlal had paid a visit to the stadium to bid for the new IPL team.
“So there is more to what meets the eye in Mohanlal’s Dubai visit for the IPL final. Buzz is that Mohanlal, along with BYJU’s, is bidding for an IPL team. Nothing official so far though.” Rajaneesh tweeted. Check out the tweet below:
