Gautam Gambhir Considering A Political Run After Retirement From Cricket?

Last night, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from all format of the game. He also announced that the upcoming Ranji Trophy game between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh will be his last.

The 37-year-old batsman from Delhi has played 58 Tests (4154 runs), 147 One-Day Internationals (5238 runs) and 37 Twenty20 Internationals. He has also played 197 first-class matches.

While Gambhir's records on this field are noteworthy, equally interesting are his tweets and comments about social issues. If one takes a closer look at his social media and the issues he comments upon, one might suspect Gambhir to be preparing for a next innings in life - a political one!

Gambhir has always been vocal over various issues plaguing the nation and often rails against the political maneuvering of various national parties, especially the BJP and AAP. Ever eager to demonstrate his knowledge of current events and society's problems, Gambhir is literally a poster-boy of Twitter.

He recently took to Twitter and blasted Kejriwal government over inaction to curb the spiralling air pollution in the city. He has also gone ahead and named Kejriwal as ‘Muffler Man’ and has voiced his dissent over the way things are being governed in the national capital.

His ‘meeting’ with senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley got enough attention even though his spokesperson denied any future plans of entering politics.

Whether Gambhir joins any political outfit or not - only time will tell. But it is sure that the Delhi boy would not sit idle, and would be involved in some form of community activity as he has done over the years.

With an army of social media followers and the Delhi local boy factor, who knows, Gambhir might be able to pull off a political career like Mohd Azharuddin did with the Congress in Telangana or Navjot Singh Sidhu in Punjab.
