IPL 2020: 3 Key Areas Chennai Super Kings need to Improve to Win the Title!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsChennai Super Kings (CSK) is without a doubt the most successful team of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With Kolkata gearing up to host the auction for the next edition of the tournament in December, CSK is expected to rope in some experienced, high-profile players to strengthen their squad. Here, we list down three key areas CSK need to improve to grab their fourth title win.
CSK squad ahead of IPL 2020 auction:
Batsmen: Ambati Rayudu, Dhruv Shorey, Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, Murali Vijay, N Jagadeeshan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sam Billings, and Suresh Raina
All-rounders: Chaitanya Bishnoi, Kedar Jadhav, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, David Willey, Dwayne Bravo, and Shane Watson.
Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, KM Asif, Mohit Sharma, Monu Kumar, Shardul Thakur, and Scott Kuggeleijn.
3 – Buy an experienced overseas pacer.
IPL 2019 saw CSK heavily relying on their spinners to bring out a tough bowling attack. In the absence of Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar was shouldering the team's pressure all alone. This time, CSK can let go of Scott Kuggeleijn and rope in an experienced overseas pacer for better results.
2 - Well-Settled Top-Order
In IPL 2018, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu opened the game for CSK in most of the matches and the results were indeed good. However, in 2019, the team's top order struggled to perform until Faf du Plessis joined Watson in the latter half. In IPL 2020, CSK will have to define their top 2 openers considering the team's interest.
3 - Individual Ownership among Batsmen
In IPL 2019, except for MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis, none of the batsmen played to their potential. But, champion teams certainly don't work that way. In IPL 2020, the top 3 should shoulder more responsibility with numbers 4-6 playing good knocks.
