Chennai Super Kings defeated Kings XI Punjab by five wickets in the final league game of the Indian Premier League on Sunday.

Sent into bat, KXIP got into trouble early as Chris Gayle returned to the pavilion for a duck. KXIP's innings dipped further when they lost Aaron Finch - 4 (6) and Lokesh Rahul - 7 (11) inside the powerplay. CSK bowlers kept picking the wickets at regular intervals. A quick cameo from Karun Nair -54 (26) helped the KXIP to post a decent score. KXIP was bundled out for 153 runs with three balls to spare. CSK bowler Lungi Ngidi picked up four wickets as Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo picked two wickets each.

Chasing the target, CSK also faced problems at the top as they lost three quick wickets inside the powerplay. Sam Billings, Harbhajan Singh, and Deepak Chahar were sent in ahead of MS Dhoni to some practice before the playoffs. Chahar - 39 (20) and Suresh Raina - 61* (48) steadied things for CSK in the middle. MS Dhoni - 16(7) came in to finish the match with a trademark six to reach the target with five balls to spare.
