As the much awaited Australia series begins, Team India and the host cricketers are seen wearing black armbands on Friday for the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Before the start of the game, the players had also observed a minute’s silence. Taking a look into the reason behind- the players paid homage to Phillip Hughes and Dean Jones.

As per Cricket Addictor report, November 27, 2020 marks the sixth death anniversary of Hughes who lost his life after getting hit on his neck by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield game in 2014. During that time, Hughes was not-out on 63 when the ill-fated incident took place.

While on the other hand Dean Jones, who passed away during the IPL 2020 in September this year. He was in Mumbai as part of IPL official broadcaster’s commentary panel when he died on September 24 after a cardiac arrest. 

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia have planned another tribute to honour Jones’ life. They have arranged a tribute on the opening day of the second Test at the Melbourne cricket ground.

Coming back to AUSvIND game, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. The match is also India’s first since March 2020. After the three ODIs, India and Australia will also play three T20Is and four Tests.
