Home > News Shots > Sports newsCricket fans woke up to good news as the annual International Cricket Council (ICC) awards were declared where some of the best performances by various players and people attached to it were recognised.
This award recognises and honours the best international cricket players of the previous 12 months. There were few big names like - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ben Stokes and Marnus Labuschagne, who were awarded different accolades.
Team India captain and skipper Virat Kolhi won the 2019 ICC Spirit of Cricket award for stopping fans from booing Australia’s Steve Smith during the 2019 World Cup.
While, 'Hit-Man' Rohit Sharma bagged the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year Award for his fantastic and splendid performances throughout 2019.
Below is the full list of 2019 ICC Awards winners:
- England's cricketer Ben Stokes was awarded the ‘Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy’ after being announced as the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2019.
- Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne also bagged ICC Emerging Player of the Year trophy.
- Deepak Chahar: 2019 T20I Performer of the Year (6/7 against Bangladesh)
- Kyle Coetzer: 2019 Associate Cricketer of the Year
- While, Pat Cummins was given the Test Player of the Year award after taking 59 wickets in the longest format.
- India’s pacer Mohammed Shami and spinner Kuldeep Yadav made their way to ICC’s ODI XI. Shami was the leading ODI wicket-taker (42) in 2019.
Meanwhile, ICC’s ODI Team of the Year has- Rohit Sharma, Shai Hope, Virat Kohli (c), Babar Azam, Kane Williamson, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (wk), Mitchell Starc, Trent Boult, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav.
The award was not only for cricketers but other match officials who like Richard Illingworth, who was given the Umpire of the Year.
