Former cricketer Virender Sehwag, who is known for his hard-hitting statements on cricketers for their performances, is once again in the news for his dig on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) player Glenn Maxwell. Seems like this time the former India batsman took his remarks too far.

Glenn Maxwell Hits Back At Virender Sehwag’s ’10 crore cheerleader’ Remark; Response Goes Viral!

Recently, while listing his five flops of IPL 2020, Sehwag took a dig at Maxwell calling him a ’10 crore cheerleader’ who was on a ‘highly-paid vacation’.

Sehwag's statement comes after Maxwell had a pretty ordinary IPL 2020 season with KXIP. After playing 13 matches in the 13th season, he could only score 108 runs at a mediocre average of 15.42 and a poor strike-rate of 101.88.

As the franchise spent more than 10 crore in the auction on Maxwell, Sehwag criticised the cricketer for the same and called him a 10-crore cheerleader.

“Glenn Maxwell. This 10 crore cheerleader proved very costly for Punjab. His IPL routine for the last few years has been of shirking from work but this season he broke that record as well. This is what you call a highly paid vacation,” Sehwag said in an episode of his YouTube show ‘Viru ki Baithak’.

Hours after Sehwag's remarks went viral, Maxwell responded to him, saying he wasn’t surprised at the former India opener’s comment. “It’s ok. Viru is pretty outspoken with his dislike of me, and that’s fine. He’s allowed to say whatever he likes. He’s in the media for such statements, so that’s fine. I deal with that and move on, and take it with a grain of salt with Sehwag,” the Maxwell said.

“I think I’m better equipped with dealing with those sorts of things now. In hindsight it was a pretty good time to go through something like that where I was able to put some groundwork in to deal with adversity. This year has certainly been a massive test of it. To be able to help people through different times of tough periods and be able to help myself through those tough periods has been really key as well," he added.

Earlier in the year, Glenn Maxwell had taken a break from the cricket due to mental health problems. He had pulled out of Australia’s home season midway and then made a comeback after close to 2-3 months for the Big Bash League (BBL).

“I was an inch short in one of the games. All I thought was, ‘Geez I should have gone to the gym a few more times before this game’. Having won the most sixes twice in that tournament, it’s pretty rare to go through a whole tournament without hitting one. I certainly copped a bit from a few of my teammates, but it was all in good jest,” Maxwell added.

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell will now be in action in the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Team India in the 50-over format set which will begin on November 27.
