'Unhappy' Fans Remind Virat Kohli of MS Dhoni's Decision After He Takes Paternity Leave During Australia Series
Home > News Shots > Sports newsAs soon as Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 gets over today, the Indian cricket team will gear up for the upcoming Australia tour which is all set to begin in a couple of weeks.
Amid all the expectations, India captain Virat Kohli will miss three Tests of the upcoming four-match series four Tests in Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the news on November 9, stating that Kohli would be back in India in time for his and wife Anushka Sharma's first child.
"Mr Virat Kohli had informed the BCCI about his plans to return to India after the first Test in Adelaide. The BCCI has granted paternity leave to the Indian captain. He will return after the first Test against Australia in Adelaide,” the BCCI press release read.
Virat will leave Australia for India after playing the first Test in Adelaide. Before he leaves Australia, Virat will lead the team in the ODI and the T20I series. Looking into the schedule, India is all set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Australia.
Minutes after Kohli’s decision to skip three Tests in Australia had gone viral, it did not go down well with some fans. Fans took to Twitter to slam the Indian skipper for choosing his family over country.
They were also quick to remind him of what MS Dhoni did in 2015 when his wife Sakshi was expecting their first child.
During the time of Ziva’s birth, Dhoni was asked about not being with wife Sakshi, to which he said; “Not really. As of now I am on national duties so I think everything else can wait. The World Cup is a very important campaign.”
Ziva was born on February, 6, 2015, two days ahead of India’s final warm-up game against Australia.
Check out few of the reactions from fans:
Well, well...this is huge news. Kohli to return after the 1st test in Australia to be there for the birth of his child. For the modern player, there is more to life than just his profession. But for the Indian team, the tour just got tougher.

kabhi bolta hain country comes first aur kabhi imp tour chorke chaley jaate hai. Dad k guzar jane k baad Kohli scored 90 odd runs the next day... & mny such players did the same. I remember Dhoni nvr took a leave when Ziva ws born.

Nothing imp than national duty, yet again Kohli proved he is not a leader

Just heard Kohli won't take part in 3 of 4 test matches against the aussies due to 'Paternity leave'. We will play without our best test batsman.
Then we had dhoni who didn't come back to India during the 2015 wc when ziva was born. Priorities matter. #INDvAUS #INDvsAUS

I am not disrespecting Virat Kohli at all..He is the pride of our nation and he deserves everything he got.
I am just admiring MS Dhoni that he was not there when Ziva was born and I think MS Dhoni deserves the appreciation for this..!!

Ziva Dhoni was born on 6th February, 2015. World cup 2015 for India started on February 15, 2015. There were 10 days in between. Just putting this fact out there

Though I respect Virat Kohli and his paternity leave is very much genuine and he deserves it..
And that's why MS Dhoni becomes more special because his first priority was his Nation when Ziva was born.
It takes a lot of courage to become The MS Dhoni..!!#AUSvIND

This is the difference between Kohli & Dhoni. For Dhoni Team comes first. He didn’t go back to see ZIVA remember. Also, kohli is afraid he might loose this time with Smith & Warner.

Virat may be the best batsman of current era but he won't be considered in G.O.A.T. list.
