RCB now officially out of contention !!!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsThe Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first.
In spite of losing Prithvi Shaw early on, Shikhar Dhawan once again looked in good touch along with Captain Shreyas Iyer who was solid at one end. They added 68 runs together as Dhawan fell for 50 from 37 balls. The Delhi Capitals then lost their way as they were trying to accelerate as Iyer fell for 52 from 37 balls. Pant and Ingram didn't make much of a contribution but Rutherford and Axar Patel provided the perfect finish as Patel finished with 16 from 9 balls and Rutherford finished with 28 off just 13 balls along with getting 20 runs off Saini's last over. This over really shifted the momentum towards the capitals.
RCB had a very good start with Parthiv Patel getting them off to a flyer with 39 from 20 balls. The opening pair added 63 runs in the powerplay. Once Kohli got out soon after the powerplay, RCB lost their momentum and lost wickets in the middle. They didn't too much support in the middle order as Devillers and Dube got starts but did not kick on. Gurkeerat Singh and Stoinis batted through till the end but the bowlers executed their plans very well. As it was 36 runs to get off the last 3 overs, Rabada and Ishant Sharma gave 6 and 4 runs in the 18th and 19th over which sealed the game for them.
The last over of RCB's bowling innings was the turning point in the match as RCB would have liked to restrict the Delhi Capitals to a lower total. After getting off to a good start, RCB were not able to capitalize on it with the middle order not going the job this game. Hence now with this loss, they will not be able to qualify for this years playoffs.
