Rahul Dravid receives the greatest honour by BCCI!

Former Indian Cricket legend Rahul Dravid has been honoured as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday. According to the TOI report, the decision was supposed to be made on July 1 but Rahul Dravid’s present job at the India cements caused the delay. 

Rahul Dravid is currently the Vice President at the India Cements. Therefore the Committee of Administrators (CoA) at the BCCI had requested Rahul Dravid to resign from his job at the India Cements or apply leave for the rest of his working days. As per the report by TOI, India cements decided to send him on leave in order to avoid any conflict of interest with the BCCI.

“Mr Dravid will be involved in the coaching, training, mentoring and motivating players including support staff and other coaches at the NCA. He will also closely work with India developmental teams such as India A, India under 19 and India under 23 teams,” said the official statement of BCCI.

The key role of Rahul Dravid will be identifying the important training and developmental objectives upon closely working with National Men’s and Women’s head coaches along with cricket coaches. Though BCCI has not specified the tenure of Rahul Dravid’s resignation, his additional responsibilities include providing necessary inputs to the Senior Men’s and Women’s Head coaches after analyzing their development strategies and objectives.

Earlier this year, Vikram Rathour, the former India opener was directly appointed as the batting coach of India A and Under-19 teams. Later, he had to move out due to the conflict of interest that was brought to the concern of CoA. Since then, BCCI stopped the practice of direct appointment and even Dravid had to officially apply for the job once it is announced on April 2019.
