It wasn’t long ago when former Australian captain Steve Smith broke down in a press conference and tendered his apology for the ball-tampering incident. On Saturday, ex-Vice-Captain David Warner tendered his apology in a press conference and said that he had let fans terribly down. An emotional Warner exhibited his fear in the press conference stating that he might never play for Australia again.
In the third test against South Africa, Australian cricket team was caught red-handed while tampering the ball in a bid to influence the game. Following the incident, governing board Cricket Australia handed a one-year ban to Smith and Warner while another player Cameron Bancroft involved in the incident was banned for nine months. Smith and Warner were subsequently stripped off their captaincy and vice-captaincy respectively and as if adding salt to the wound, they were dropped from IPL 2018 as well. Darren Lehmann resigned as head coach as well in the aftermath of the controversy.
