A wedding in Tirupur on Thursday has made news for adopting an organic-themed, green way of celebrations. The wedding of the couple - Logeswaran and Geetanjali Ritika - featured everything green from wedding feast to gifts to guests.

They brought vegetables free of chemical fertilizers to prepare the wedding feast and used eco-friendly plates and water cups. Interestingly, they distributed purified rainwater for drinking and all cooking purposes in the wedding. Kids were given toys made of palm leaves and other wooden materials.

Geetanjali’s father Ravi is associated with Vanathukul Tirupur, an organisation that works to increase the green cover of Tirupur district, says a report by The News Minute. Ravi reportedly said that the green wedding was made possible with the help of the members of the organisation.

Instead of luxurious gifts like a car, the bride and groom were given a cow and a calf - belonging to Kangayam, a country breed. The wedding received appreciations from environmental activists and has inspired those who attended the wedding.
