The Air India A320neo, which took off from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 9.43 am, landed at the same airport again at 10.10 am, Air India management said today. Airport officials said the plane immediately landed due to repairs to the aircraft engine.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot was informed by the airport control room that one of its engines was overheating in the exhaust area. Following this, the pilot landed the plane again at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai in the next few minutes.
Air India officials said the passengers then flew to Bangalore on another flight. A spokesman for the airline said, "Air India accords top priority to safety and our crew are well adept at handling these situations. Our Engineering and Maintenance teams had immediately started looking into the issue. The scheduled flight had left with passengers to Bengaluru after a change of aircraft."

The Air India flight that took off from the airport was immediately grounded and the National Air Transport Directorate is investigating the incident, officials said.
