The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won a landslide victory in the five state elections held last week. The BJP won in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur in polls that ended last week. The Congress lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won 92 of the 117 assembly constituencies in Punjab, which ended in a single phase. Following this, Bhagwant Mann took over as the Chief Minister yesterday.
The term of five elected Rajya Sabha members from the state of Punjab ends in April. The Election Commission of India has announced the election date for the new Rajya Sabha members.
Nominations for the March 31 election will be filed on March 21. Candidates contesting on behalf of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party are likely to win.
Harbhajan Singh
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to select Harbhajan Singh, a former CSK spinner and former player of the Indian cricket team, for the post of Rajya Sabha member for the state of Punjab.
Earlier, on the eve of the release of the Punjab state election results, Harbhajan Singh tweeted, "Congratulations to the Aam Aadmi Party and my friend Bhagwant Mann on Becoming our New Chief minister .. great to hear that he will be taking oath as the new CM in Bhagat Singh's village Khatkarkalan, what a picture…this is a proud moment for Mata ji."
Bhagwant Mann had already said that he would send athletes from Punjab to the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, reports are circulating that Harbhajan Singh will be the Aam Aadmi Party's Rajya Sabha candidate. Thus cricket fans are looking forward to get the official announcement.
