‘India’s Safest COVID-19 Vaccine’ Receives Approval for Human Trials! – Health Minister Reveals Details
Home > News Shots > India newsIndia has been witnessing an increase in the number of coronavirus cases. Currently the numbers have crossed 9 lakh and the medical experts have been trying to develop a vaccine indigenously, in order to combat the pandemic.
India’s second vaccine, Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D was being developed in Ahmedabad. While the race to find a dosage that has been prepared from scratch within the country, this drug received approvals to start clinical trials phase I and II.
This was announced by Health Minister Dr.Harsh Vardhan on twitter. “ZyCoV-D, the plasmid DNA vaccine designed & developed by @ZydusUniverse & partially funded by @DBTIndia has initiated Phase I/ II clinical trials in healthy subjects, making it the first indigenously developed vaccine for #COVID19 to be administered in humans in India.@IndiaDST,” his tweet read.
Pre-clinical trials of this drug were performed on animals such as mice, rabbits, rats, who developed anti-bodied to fight the virus. TOI also reported that by far, it is the most safest and “well-tolerated” vaccine.
The other vaccine, COVAXIN produced by Bharat Biotech is also yet to commence testing.
