After taking oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the third time on Thursday, BJP’s Yeddyurappa waived off the farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh. This is Yeddyurappa’s first action after being sworn in as the Chief Minister by Governor Vajubhai Vala. Reports suggest that the waiver amounts to a total of Rs 56,000 crore.

The 75-year-old was seen wearing a green shawl when he was sworn in as a symbol of empathising with the farmers. Notably, during the swearing-in ceremony, Yeddyurappa took oath in the name of “God and farmers”.

Meanwhile, leaders and MLAs from Congress and JD(S) have been staging a dharna against the Governor’s decision inviting Yeddyurappa to form the government. They have alleged that the decision is an abuse of constitutional power.
