Pramod Muthalik, the leader of Sri Ram Sene, a Hindutva outfit, likened Gauri Lankesh, a Bengaluru-based journalist, who was murdered by gunmen, to a dog, say reports. The purported video of the incident in which he makes the remark is going viral on social media. The Hindutva leader was quoted as questioning, “Do you expect Modi to respond every time a dog dies in Karnataka?”
Muthalik, however, clarified that he didn’t mean to liken Lankesh to a dog but had only pointed out that the prime minister cannot comment on every death in the state. He was speaking at an event organised by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Journalist Gauri Lankesh, the editor of the weekly Lankesh Patrike magazine, was shot dead by unidentified men at her residence in Bengaluru late on September 5.
