Damage Control: White House Explains Why It ‘Unfollowed’ PM Modi on Twitter
Home > News Shots > India newsHours after unfollowing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind on Twitter, the White House gave an explanation at to why it took that step at a time when US and India are in good books with each other.
Further explaining on the issue, White House informed that it follows the accounts of officials from host countries for a small period of time during a presidential trip to retweet their messages in support of the visit.
Soon after a massive social media uproar in India, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and said "I'm dismayed by the "unfollowing" of our President & PM by the White House. I urge the Ministry of External Affairs to take note."
Three weeks ago, White House had started following the accounts of President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister's office, the Indian Embassy in the US, the US Embassy in India, and the US Ambassador to India, Ken Juster, at a time when US President Trump was coming to India.
