A 40-year-old vegetable seller from Aurangabad committed suicide on Thursday after receiving an electricity bill of Rs 8.64 lakh. In his suicide note, he mentioned that the huge bill was the reason for his death.
Reportedly, the bill amount was just a mistake. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) released an official statement that the clerk wrongly typed the meter readings as 61,178 KW instead of 6,117.8 KW. MSEDCL also suspended the clerk for his careless error.
