Kashif Jameel, brother of Gorakhpur doctor Kafeel Khan, was shot at by men on motorcycle around 11 pm on Sunday, say reports. He is now under observation after a surgery was conducted around 2 am to remove a bullet lodged in his neck. Kafeel Khan was incharge of paediatrics wing when over 60 children died at the BRD hospital in Gorakhpur in August 2017.
Jameel, who is a businessman, was shot at half a km from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s home, the Gorakhnath temple. Police reportedly ruled out any motive behind the shooting of the 34-year-old.
During the children’s death at the Gorakhpur hospital, Dr Khan had arranged oxygen cylinders from a private hospital. While he was removed and arrested on charges of negligence, the Allahabad High Court on April 25 granted him bail saying that no direct evidence of negligence on his part was found.
