The truck operators across the nation have begun an indefinite strike on Friday demanding a slew of measures including the lowering of fuel prices and toll fees. Over 9.3 million members belonging to various unions are expected to stay off the road.
Bal Malkit Singh, chairman of the All-India Motor Transport Congress core committee, reportedly said that they met Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari and finance minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday. However, he reportedly sounded sceptical if any solution can be found at the meeting.
Some of the other demands of truckers include bringing diesel under GST, fixing “flawed and non-transparent” toll collection system, high insurance premia and exemptions and abolitions in direct taxes, national permits for all buses and trucks.
