The Tripura government had hired Sukanta Chakraborty to spread awareness on lynching due to rumour-mongering. However, ironically, Chakraborty ended up getting lynched on Thursday night.
According to reports, 33-year-old Chakraborty was one of the three people hired by Tripura to campaign against unnecessary lynching believing baseless rumours of child-lifting on social media.
While it was originally thought that Chakraborty fell victim to the very thing he campaigned against, the police are yet to confirm the actual reason. Reportedly, the activist was attacked in his car. While Chakraborty died, his driver escaped with injuries.
