Home > News Shots > India newsAn independant survey involving 190,000 responses has revealed that 51% of Indian citizens had paid bribes in the last 12 months to get their work done with property registration, police and municipality. The survey also provides a state-wise breakdown of corruption levels and here are the 8 states topping the list.
8 - Tamil Nadu: Around 62% of Tamil Nadu citizens admitted to paying bribes (35% serveral times and 27% once or twice). Only 8% said they managed to get their work done without paying a bribe.
7 - Karnataka: 63% of the people of Karnataka admitted to paying bribes (35% several times and 28% once or twice). Around 9% said they got their work done without paying a bribe.
6 - Punjab: Just like Karnataka, 63% of Punjab citizens said they paid a bride to get their work done (27% several times and 36% once or twice). Around 27% said they never paid a bribe.
5 - Telangana: Approximately 67% of Telangana citizens said they paid money under the table to get their work done (56% several times and 11% once or twice). A total of 11% said they never paid a bribe.
4 - Uttar Pradesh: 74% of Uttar Pradesh citizens admitted to paying bribes (57% several times and 17% once or twice). Only 3% said they managed to get their work done without paying a bribe.
3 - Jharkhand: A total of 74% people of Jharkhand admitted to bribing officials to get their work done. Interestingly, all 74% said they had paid bribes several times while 13% could get their work done without paying any extra money.
2 - Bihar: In the state, 75% citizens said they had paid bribes (50% several times and 25% once or twice). Around 25% said they got their work done without paying a bribe.
1 - Rajasthan: The state qualifies as the most corrupt as per the survey with 78% citizens saying they had to bribe officials to get their work done (22% several times and 56% once or twice). 22% reported that they did not have to pay any extra money.
