Former Tamil Nadu BJP President Tamilisai Soundarajan was sworn in as the Governor of Telangana on Sunday (August 8) at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Paneer Selvam and Ministers Thangamani and D Jayakumar were also present during the ceremony.

As soon as she was sworn in, Soundararajan sought the blessings of her father Kumari Ananthan, a renowned Congress leader.

Soundarajan who served as Tamil Nadu BJP Present from 2014 stepped down from her position after she was announced to be Telangana’s next Governor on September 1. Succeeding ESL Narasimhan has now made Soundararajan the first woman Governor to be appointed from Tamil Nadu.

A doctor by profession, Soundararajan is also the niece of Congress MP H Vasanthakumar. She contested from Thoothukudi opposing Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) Kanimozhi Karunanidhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
