According to a poll by global experts released on Tuesday, India is the most dangerous country for women. Women in India reportedly face a higher risk of sexual violence and are found forced into slavery.
India was followed by Afghanistan and Syria, which came second and third respectively. The USA was the only country from the west to make it into the top 10. The poll was earlier taken in 2011 which featured countries like Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan and India.
Experts believe that not much is being done in the nation against sexual violence. Manjunath Gangadhara, an official in the Karnataka government reportedly said, "India has shown utter disregard and disrespect for women... rape, marital rapes, sexual assault and harassment, female infanticide has gone unabated."
