In a chargesheet filed by police in a Delhi court, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been accused of abetting the suicide of his late wife Sunanda Pushkar. The Congress leader from Kerala has also been accused of subjecting his wife to cruelty. Fifty-one-year-old Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in the suite of a luxury hotel in south Delhi on January 17, 2014.
Meanwhile, the parliamentarian on Monday took to Twitter to call the charges “preposterous” and intended to “contest it vigorously”. He wrote, “1/2 I have taken note of the filing of this preposterous charge sheet &intend to contest it vigorously. No one who knew Sunanda believes she would ever have committed suicide, let alone abetment on my part.”
The 62-year-old also questioned the methods and motivations of Delhi Police saying, “If this is conclusion arrived at after 4+ yrs of investigation, it does not speak well of the methods or motivations of the Delhi Police. On Oct 17, the Law Officer made a statement in the Delhi High Court that they have not found anything against anyone & now in 6 months they say that I have abetted a suicide. Unbelievable!”
However, a Delhi Police spokesperson told that the chargesheet was filed based on the “medico-legal and forensic evidence analysed during investigation as well as opinion of psychological autopsy experts”, says a Times of India report.
