The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the review plea regarding sentencing the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case to death. The four men were given the death sentence for raping and torturing a 23-year-old medical student on a bus in Delhi in 2012.
Three out of the four acquitted convicts filed a review plea in November last year to reduce their death sentence to a life-term. However, on Monday the SC upheld the death sentence of the convicts. The court reportedly delivered the judgement in front of Nirbhaya's parents.
The judgement was delivered by a bench containing Chief Justice Dipak Mishra and Justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan.
