According to reports, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear on a plea seeking the transfer of 18 AIADMK MLAs disqualification case from Madras High Court to the apex court. A vacation bench of justices Arun Mishra and S K Kaul agreed to hear the plea after senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for the 18 MLAs, claimed that the matter is serious and needs an urgent hearing.

The bench said it will hear the plea on Wednesday (June 27) and directed the listing of the petition. Earlier, the Madras High Court bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar delivered a split verdict on the matter on June 14.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal disqualified the 18 MLAs, owing allegiance to TTV Dhinakaran, under the anti-defection law on September 18 last year. They were disqualified after they approached the Governor and demanded the removal of Edappadi K Palaniswami as the Chief Minister.
