Guwahati and other parts of Assam witnessed heavy rains on Monday night, leaving several areas of the city water-logged. However, it seems that it was pouring indoors at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, water can be seen gushing through the ceiling of the newly-made extension of the passenger lounge. Passengers started flooding Twitter, sharing videos of water rushing through air-conditioning vents, light sockets, and the gaps between ceiling tiles. People lamented the sorry state of infrastructure in the state, blaming authorities for not learning from their mistakes.
With water entering the baggage belt area, passengers claimed that they were drenched and had to move away from their luggage. No equipment, including the baggage screening machines were affected because of this, said an airport official
Passengers were furious and unhappy with the civic apathy on part of authorities. Many of them put their rant out on Twitter, tagging Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi
