Police Officer Murders Wife Then Commits Suicide; Investigation Details Here!

In a shocking case, a retired Kerala Police official allegedly killed his wife and then committed suicide by hanging himself at Thozhuvancode under Vattiyootrkavu police station limits. 

The deceased police officer has been identified as Ponnan and wife Leela, who was also a retired police officer. 

According to Vattiyoorkavu station house officer Santhakumar, the incident took place around 8:00 a.m. The police rushed at the house after being alerted by neighbours. When they reached, they were shocked to see Leela on the floor profusely bleeding. She had a deep cut on her throat with a sharp weapon. She was still alive when the police arrived but passed away; on the way to hospital, Times of India reported.  

"We received a call and we came and by that time everything had happened. We rushed his wife in an ambulance to the hospital. But she passed away," the local police official said. Ponnan was found hanging from a tree on their neighbour's land behind their house. 

As per New Indian Express report, Ponnan had retired as an Additional Sub Inspector of police, while Leela also retired in the same post.

During investigation, the neighbours complained of quarrel taking place between the couple quite often. Police say that, Ponnan had an argument with his wife in the morning and in a fit of rage killed Leela. Thinking that she died, he ended his life.
