Earlier the Railway Ministry had announced that advance booking time will only be for a maximum of 30 days. On Thursday, the ministry announced that the passengers can now begin advance booking before 120 days.

“Ministry of Railways has decided to increase the advance reservation period (ARP) of all specials (trains) notified from 30 days to 120 days. Booking of parcel and luggage shall be permitted in all these 230 trains," an official statement said.

The Tatkal quota has now been restored for 200 special trains and 30 Rajdhani- type trains. After the service was shut down for 2 months due to the spread of the novel coronavirus and the nation-wide lockdown, the ministries announcements show a hope for normalcy to return. The ministry has also allowed passengers to now begin booking for luggage and parcel in the aforementioned trains.

“The changes shall be implemented with effect from 08:00 hrs of train booking date of 31 May 2020 onwards," an official statement said. Hence the Indian railways will start operating 200 trains from June 1, for key cities, across the country.
