Police Takes Rs 17K Bribe Day After He Was Awarded - Look What The Dept. Did?
Home > News Shots > India newsIt was a big day for this policeman who was awarded as the 'best constable' on Independence Day. Not even 24 hours after winning the award, he was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 17,000.
This police constable has been identified as Palle Thirupathi Reddy, who was recognised for his 'dedication and hard work' on August 15.
As per India Today reports, the Telangana government awarded Reddy with the 'best constable' award. It was given to him by state minister Srinivas Goud in presence of the district Superintendent of Police (SP) Rema Rajeshwari.
But, Constable Reddy landed in trouble after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught him harassing a man and taking a bribe of Rs 17,000. It is alleged that he had been harassing a man, identified as M Ramesh, for over a year and had been demanding bribe by threatening to confiscate his tractor, India Today further reported.
Worried over the big bribe amount, Ramesh approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against Constable Reddy. Days later, the officials caught him red-handed on Friday at 5:00 pm.
The ACB officials further state that, the money was recovered from the "back pocket" of Constable Reddy's trousers. Following which, he was arrested and produced before a special court.
