His post did not elaborate on the reason behind doing so which totally kept netizens clueless. PM Modi is one of the most followed world leaders on social media. He has a total of 53.3 million followers on Twitter, 44 million on Facebook, 35.2 million on Instagram and 4.5 million on YouTube, which surpasses other world leaders of any country.
PM Modi took to social media and tweeted saying, "This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube. Will keep you all posted." This post went viral and amassed over 65,000 likes, 42,000 replies and 22,000 retweets within an hour.
The Prime Minister, who is known for reaching out to the masses through social media, has not held a single press conference since 2014.
According to NDTV reports, PM Modi is the third world leader to cross 50 million followers on Twitter after Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Check out the viral tweet below:
