WATCH VIDEO: That "Gate ah thorada" Moment for Cheaper Onions
Home > News Shots > India newsAfter the onion prices sky-rocketed to Rs 100 per Kg, the Jagan Mohan Reddy Government in Andhra Pradesh bought 16,000 quintals of onions from Maharashtra for nearly Rs 10 crore and sold to the people for just Rs 25.
The Parthapuram Rythu Bazar in Vizianagaram district saw a large number of people waiting outside the partially closed gates to buy the cheaper onions. Though the employees tried to control the crowd by closing the gate, the crowd exploded like Kamal Haasan in 'Vettaiyaadu Villayadu" where he says "Moodra Gateh"( Close the gate). In this case, people were like "Gate ah Thorada" (Open the gate).
“Someone spread rumors that the stock was over, and the people broke open the gates,” YV Syam Kumar, Assistant Director Marketing, Vizianagaram was quoted as saying to TNM. The crowd knocked down an old man who was standing among them. Fortunately, he was helped by a bystander which saved him from getting injured.
The video of the incident surfaced on the internet and is going viral on social media platforms. Watch the video below.
