A few days back, a soldier from Kerala who was posted at Kolkata passed away spreading a scare that it could be a possible Nipah virus outbreak.
His samples sent for testing for the virus has come back negative thereby making officials relieved.
As many as 18 people have died in Kerala following the outbreak of the deadly infection, which doesn't have any vaccination as of now.
With several being quarantined and fresh cases of Nipah-like symptoms being reported at hospitals, the state might look at a plausible second outbreak.
