Telugu Desam Party of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday moved a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government in Lok Sabha. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepted the motion, the first since 2003. Earlier, the Congress also earlier put in a notice for a no-confidence motion.
The Speaker notified that the discussion the no-confidence motion will take place on Friday. The NDA government does not face any real threat over the motion as the coalition enjoys a comfortable majority. The move is seen as an attempt for political gains by the opposition parties ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2019.
Parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar said the Union government was ready to face the no-confidence motion.
