Nirbhaya Convicts To Be Hanged; Delhi Court Issues Fresh Date After President Rejects Mercy Petition

After years of wait and anticipation, the four convicts in the Delhi gang-rape case will be hanged at 5.30 am on March 20. This order has come from a Delhi court after President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy petition of Pawan Gupta, one of the convict in the case.

March 29, is the fourth death warrant that has been issued by the court in this matter. The first date of execution was January 22, which later got postponed to February 1. After which a trial court on January 31 stayed the execution till further orders.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the court on February 17, then directed that the four be hanged at 6 am on March 3, which was the third date of execution.

This order comes a day after President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy petition of Pawan Gupta. With this last petition, all the four convicts have exhausted all their legal options available.

The four men are convicted for the gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old medical student in Delhi.
