The Kerala health ministry has reportedly confirmed that 10 people have been killed so far by the Nipah virus, while two others are in a critical condition. In the 18 samples sent for testing, 12 people tested positive for the virus, of which 10 died. Health minister KK Shylaja said that the World Health Organisation has been informed about the outbreak of the virus.

While the outbreak is severe in North Kerala’s Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, an expert team from National Centre for Disease Control have visited the state. Further, a high-level team from AIIMS is also in the state.

Earlier, a 31-year-old nursing assistant named Lini died of the virus attack at Perambra Taluk Hospital on Monday. Lini’s body was cremated at an electric crematorium to prevent the spread of the virus.
