A Mumbai-based activist, Anil Galgali filed a Right to Information (RTI) query with the Bureau of Outreach and Communication demanding how much money was spent by the Modi government on publicity. The shocking answers revealed that since 2014, Rs 4,343.26 crore has been spent for advertisements alone.

According to the reply, the government had spent a total of Rs 953.54 crore from June 2014 to March 2015 on advertisements. The amount spent increased even further for the next year (2015-2016) to Rs 1,171.11 crore. Even though the money spent on print media decreased in the year 2016-2017, the total still went up to Rs 1,263.15 crore.
