Mentally-challenged woman thought to be kidnapper; thrashed mercilessly

A mentally-challenged woman was thrashed by locals in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district over suspicions of being a child-abductor, says a report by the Hindustan Times.

Locals who beat up the woman claimed that they spotted her luring children with candies on multiple occasions, adding in her defence that the area has witnessed several incidents of child trafficking.


The woman was taken into police custody after which she received treatment at a hospital.
