A 30-year-old man in Jalandhar named Rajan Singh (in pic) committed suicide on Wednesday after his travel agent sent him to Russia by falsely promising that he would later be moved to the United States.

The deceased had paid ₹13 lakh as an advance payment and had spent three months in Moscow. He returned home to Jalandhar and hung himself from a ceiling fan.

A case has been registered under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals’ Regulation Act at the Division Number 5 police station against the travel agent.
